Trop Reading

The rhythm of scriptural readings is known as trop. The term "trop" can refer to the musical notation that is added to text to express the melody, the accompanying musical phrase, or the full system of musical phrases for a specific purpose (because there are different melodies for different circumstances, discussed below). Trop can refer to a single notation, phrase, or system, or it can refer to several. It is both a singular and a collective noun. The Hebrew terms for trop are already plural in form, but we rarely use that phrase (-im is a plural ending, and the -ei ending can be singular or plural).
